Meet Kat Stein, the "Wonder Woman" of the Philly music scene. Kat is the keyboardist for alternative rock band Sonnder, and also plays keys and bass lady for soulful singer - songwriter Keely Sibilia. When she's not performing you can find her behind the bar at local Italian Market venue Connie's Ric Rac, She is also a full time nanny, music teacher, and human rights activist with a wicked sense of humor.
How do you take your coffee, tea? (or hey, whiskey!) Okay get ready for a long answer. Coffee: if I’m at Dunkin (no thanks yikes), black iced coffee with mocha. Pretty much anywhere else it’s cream and sugar BUT if I’m at Starbucks it’s almost always a tall soy caramel macchiato with an extra shot of espresso because who follows rules amirite??? Tea: just tea plz Whiskey: yes.

In this ever changing political climate, do you feel inspired to write, or do you feel overwhelmed?
I felt overwhelmed for about a month, then I became inspired. My friend Gianna Lozzi and I recently started a band/project called Someone’s Daughters. We are organizing a series of fundraisers called United Anonymous in which we round up performers, visual artists, sponsors, and pretty much anything else you can think of to raise money for different causes. Our first event is March 25th at Connie’s Ric Rac and it is titled “United Anonymous for Planned Parenthood.” Very excited to be doing something to stand up for what I believe, and to be playing (and soon, writing) with someone new! - Wow, that's amazing! Have you always lived in Philadelphia?
No! I am from Vancouver, Washington. I lived in the same house until I was 18, then I moved to Philly to for college (o hai uarts) and have subsequently lived in many houses in this city.
- that is a pretty incredible commute, we're lucky to have you on the east coast! hopefully it rains less here If you had a friend come from out of town wanting to see the city, where would you take them first?
Oof the number of times I have had to think about this is pretty impressive. I always feel like I should show people the historical parts of the city first, but last time a friend visited the first place we went was Shake Shack because like…food.

What’s your favorite song you’ve ever written? ( and why?)
Definitely the Sonnder song "Pink". I didn’t write the melody or lyrics, but the instrumental I wrote/the song in general feels very emotional to me in a way that nothing else does, and I’m probably the most proud of that final product than any other song. It’s also one that we haven't gotten to play live yet, so that probably makes it more appealing to me.

Camille Peruto's sophomore album "From the Sea to the Sky" is your road trip's new best friend. Crooked Roads - Have you ever encountered melodies that would make ice cream melt? Well now you have. Reminiscent of early Sara Bareilles, with upbeat piano, and cool synth surf-rock vibes. Thoughtful percussive choices, including claps,and tambourine. While layering in simple bass lines, and endless harmonies that build throughout the song, giving it beautiful depth. "Where crooked roads go, nobody knows"
Biscuit Moon - Very intrigued by the imagery of the title, beautiful acoustic guitar brings us into this song...smooth, calm, patient storytelling. "its not a question baby, i'm not an easy fix" Singing from a place of a woman, digging deep exploring the world at her fingertips, an old soul speaking from within. The drums are deep and pushing, like a heart beat resonating in a cushioned cage. A late night walk under the "biscuit moon". "Isn't it a funny little world we live in, driven to a soul for reasons we will never know.. and I am on my way home"
Can't Get Away - This song is a slow fiery burn, the chorus comes in like a sledge hammer, blasting through your bedroom wall. Similar to Milky Choice's ambient reggae-esque guitar lines with simple percussive beats. "Oh no say you wont go, say you wont go" the song is the perfect influence of the song "Sail" by Awolnation, with strong pop vocals, and Camille's unique vocal inflections. Weaving background vocals, over a dark and stormy landscape. "You can drive all night, but you cant get away from it"
Silent Melody - Silent Melody feels like the new wave of reggae / pop -soul. Mixing in synth-hop drum beats, crunchy electric guitars, and ambient tones floating high in the background, all the while telling a story of two lovers with fun lyrical twists "you're like a silent melody, i can hear the tune, you got me fighting for the key"
Let Go - Camille is an acoustic powerhouse, completely in her element with this song. A killer chorus, with a strong hook. "I hear the sirens calling my name, they leave me blinded with great deals of shame, but i'm giving my hope down on my knees". The bridge rings true showering us in a blissful, honest moment right before building right back up with the band into a powerful, hard hitting last chorus.
Sword - Intriguing rhythms battle throughout this tune, dropping into a trippy medieval beat in the chorus, fitting for the song title. "love is faithful and fair, and we all find it somewhere". Expertly crafted harmonies and songwriting. "don't pick it apart, if you want it its yours, there's a hole in your heart, fill it up with a touch of love" The instrumental outro is a nice touch!
The High Road - (personal favorite) Acoustic guitar and Camille's voice, is all she'll ever need for a hit record, which is exactly why this song is so amazing. Nothing is out of place, or looked over, each instrument is only added when it adds to the feeling behind the songs. The sign of a good ear, and great team of musicians and production. "Life is like a holiday, it passes fast but always stays in a way, and love is like an open door, that still closes but the light shines above the floor". The chorus is very catchy. The echoing vocal lines around the 2:30 mark are an intricate detail I admire about this song. Patient and confident, this song really shines bright, which allows Camille to sing to her heart's content at the end.
Crazy Crazy Mad - Edgy, with some attitude, you might find yourself tapping your fingers on your keyboard listening to this one. A song about letting go, and letting out all those frustrations with past relationships. Effortless high notes, and catchy hooks "Lets go crazy, crazy mad" Set Up a Sail - Here we get to hear about a musician, finally flying from the nest, setting out into the world to tour and find out if they can make the cut, while trying to hold on to the comforts of home. Something so many artists and musicians can relate to. "Set up a sail and direct me with the wind" Row Ghost - Imagine dusting off your favorite record, and hearing the vinyl crackling softly as the intro comes in. This song has a strong intro, with a unique guitar effects on the intro lick. a gorgeous song, with a powerful chorus. Peruto sings about the East Coast, and the Atlantic Ocean; Wanting to pay homage to her faithful listeners and family back home. "People say that better days are coming" Lagoon - Last but certainly not least, we are met with the eerily beautiful song "Lagoon". It is filled with clever word play, strong hooks and memorable lyrics. Deep crunchy bass / synth float in on the second verse, along with intricate drum parts, and backing vocals floating in like waves. Distorted vocals on the bridge, back into a smooth last chorus built up with all the elements of this great song. A somber, lost at sea feeling that is brings this album to a calming, peaceful close.
Jared Mancuso reignites rock n' roll with his incredible album "Superdope". Combining high energy party romps, tender 50's surf rock vibes, and throwbacks to blues, and early pop, Superdope easily puts Mancuso in a genre all his own. Roll Over – like a Molotov Cocktail thrown into a pile
of fireworks, Superdope gets right in your face with funky, grungy electric
guitar, crunchy riffs and warm arranged backup vocals. “Go on,
roll over now” Explosive energy circulates around a tight, locked in rhythm section. Building throughout the song is the intense Led Zeppelin feel, and Weezer vibes. Electric guitars play in perfect synchronicity with each other. "You can make threats, I'm not the kind of person you can scare". Calm, cool and collected lyrics combat with the vibrant rock beat, like those fleeting heated moments in an argument. Sometimes things go much smoother when you Roll over and give in.
La De Da – a fun, tongue in cheek tune about people who seem to just let themselves
be miserable. People can get hung up in bad relationships, or wanting companionship, when they haven't found how to even make themselves happy. With a jaunty chorus of La de da dee da’s, as if to say they’re
ignoring the things they could do to be living a better life. By the end of the song you might find yourself arm and arm with your best buddy at the bar, Guinness's in hand, and a round of whiskey shots on the way. The F_ck – (personal favorite) Awesome. Catchy, “I dive right in, then I quickly start to
sink” “What the F_ck am I supposed to do?!” This song brings on the hard questions...what am I going to do with my life, should I move
across the country, should I try to find
myself, or should I stay put and keep hitting the pavement? “Ain’t got the words, because this pen’s running
out of ink” The bridge builds in intensity with Ooh’s and crashing drum fills, melodic shredding guitars, harmonies so godly you might have to tie your
shoes to your chair. “It could be I’m not good enough to make it” a refreshing dose of self awareness, Mancuso digs deep to understand what might be holding him back when it comes to commercial success in the music industry. This song, and this entire album exceeds genre boundaries, shows character, and exposes the raw talent, tenacity, and songwriting mastery that comprises Jared Mancuso's sound.
Would You – slows down for a minute “I’ve got these brand
new shoes and I’m walking away from you” “you left your laundry here, come and
get it when I’m not around”… breakups are never easy, someone you used to be so
into is now the one person you hope to avoid at the grocery store. Beach boys vibes, 50’s
surf rock pull you in like a slow crashing wave. The little bit of slap-back echo on Mancuso’s voice sends cool chills into the mix. The harmonized guitar solo paints a vivid image of a dark stormy
beach, with simple drum beats keeping everything centered.“Now would you let it go?” Continually impressed by the focus on songwriting, and keeping it in the forefront. With a band that has the capacity to blow the roof off a warehouse , they know exactly when to hold back and put the song first.
Superdope – The title track of Mancuso’s new project is your next party anthem. Quick-paced lyrics and smooth falsetto. “Put your hands up for the superdope party” Beastie
Boys meets the Black Keys. A winning combination of rock n' roll with a fun hip hop feel. They really
dig their teeth in at the bridge, the groove gets heavy and the lead guitars
scream and wail in perfect harmony. Only to exceed themselves at the last moments with an explosive, edge of your seat ending.
Mayday (Instrumental) – This is not your typical album ballad, this is a high speed car chase on the open freeway at night. Beefy, thick guitars, wild crashing
drums, and what sounds to be piano ripping it like Jerry Lee Lewis playing Great Balls of Fire. Each member taking turns adding to this complex rock
n’roll layer cake that makes it impossible to sit still. Mayday makes your standard rock 4 piece sound like the Trans Siberian Orchestra.
Rest of Our Lives – Vocals styling reminiscent of Weezer, and The
Avett Brothers really allow the lyrics to shine on this track. Sweet harmonies and hot electric guitars go back and
forth to tell a story of a love in the works. “I thought we’d be together for
the rest of our lives” In the age of online dating, and hook up apps, it may seem like an impossible sea of love to navigate. You might have one of the best first dates of your life, only to never hear from that person again. Or the opposite, you may have had a terrible time, only to find that person is now sending you love notes in the mail and showing up at your work. Either way, it's these things a listener can really connect to with Mancuso's music. Songs about the everyday struggles of dating and pursuing love. “…I can’t believe we met last week. I can prove to you
that my love never dies…if only you would take a second date”.
Drive Me Crazy – smooth fuzz guitar, shaker percussion, falsetto vocal
doubling set the vintage, old-time recording feel of this track. Transcending from Modern
rock to earlier styles of rock n’ roll with all the style and flair of Motown
producers back in the 50's. The groove gets deep and muddy like hot fudge. The drum tom and
snare are deep and dark toned. Like the love that dragged you so deep underground that you’ll
never find a clean escape. “You know that you drive me crazy, and I know it’s
all the things you do to me” A toxic, yet working relationship. As artists I
think we all find ourselves in some crazy relationships, ever on the prowl for
our next muse.
The Other Side – bright, fun, upbeat, full of energy; The Other Side is stumbling onto a
beach party, and getting handed cold beers and Austin style street tacos. Gang vocals in the chorus bring out the tenaciousness in Mancuso's voice. “Need a ride to
the other side” “ba da ba” surf vibes meets hard driving classic rock. “if you’re too cool for school, then you’re
really never gonna make it”. I Showing up to a scene “fly as hell” ready to meet
girls, and dance, and see how crazy a night can get. Bring the party over to
the other side (the next morning).
Water – (personal favorite) the closing track to Superdope starts off with
acoustic guitar, vocals similar to Anthony Kiedis, and the warm expressive feel of Neutral Milk
Hotel. Perfectly panned harmonies, and acoustic guitar solo that warms your spirit like
a fresh pot of coffee after a long night. “through the surf and sound, make my
way back home” A nice throwback to this entire album, a work inspired by the
simple effectiveness of early rock n roll bands and recordings, combined with all the party vibes of bands like
The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Black Keys, and Weezer. As the song progresses the ooh La la’s build as the snare rolls back in, claps, and unique piano tones join as it all fades away, like the waves
retracting back to the sea.

blends perfectly with sustained organ, transcending effortlessly between jazz
and rock feels. With influences of Jimmy Preston, The Meters, and Jimmy Smith, there are countless musical avenues to wander down, while also carving out their own. Free Hugs is an exciting ride, so buckle up!
Mr. Square Peg + Miss Round Hole - A lo-fi radio version of Hambone Relay's sound is poured over this song like hot maple syrup on a stack of fluffy hotcakes. It sends you back to the days of spinning records all night that you bought at your favorite vinyl shop, then, immediately you're zapped back into today with all the smooth and crisp production, deep warm tones of electric guitar and organ. Reinforcing the idea of a modern rock band that continues to evolve, while simultaneously staying true to their roots. Organ and Guitar sing out as a duet, courting each other with melodies. Midway through the song you might find yourself doing double take when the band shakes things up like an Etch-a-Sketch, transitions that would make the most seasoned band run up to throw the band high fives on stage.
Boilermaker – Just as the name suggests, a shot of well whiskey and a beer would go well with this tune. Smooth, with a little bite, followed
by ice cold awesome organ vibes. Percussive jazz guitar riffs, and boasting a non-stop, ever evolving rhythm section. All in perfect harmony and
time, building and breaking down intricate melodic sections.
Chicken n’ Biscuits – Steaming hot, buttery flaky goodness right
here. Picture sitting down to eat with extended family for a celebration. Sharing a table
of home-cooked food on a late Sunday afternoon before the big game. Your
uncle single handedly trying to drag you outside for a game of football, while maintaining eye contact with the last chicken drumstick on your plate. You might find yourself clapping along with the band halfway
through the song, the music drops out to just claps and a lyrical jazzy guitar
solo, when the whole band comes back in you feel the energy dripping, like condensation on an ice cold glass of your favorite beer.
Peacefully Idle – (personal favorite) Peacefully Idle is a song that shows off the softer side of Hambone
Relay. It starts off with a laid back, mellow R&B feel. The first rays of sunshine peeking through your
window on your day off. Lazily making your way to the kitchen to start brewing
some coffee, your puppy-dog already smiling at your feet. Smooth organ
pads, light crispy guitar solos that pull right at your heartstrings. A beautiful
ballad with one of the most serene moments on this album, as a cascading guitar solo brings this song to a satisfying end.
(We Gonna) Make It Right – Ready to get back to rocking? Well these guys waste no time jumping back into their stride, warm upbeat grooves, impressive drum chops and more air-tight organ and guitar features. Hambone Relay has a way of making you feel at home in their songs. If you were having even an inkling of a bad day, this tune will make it right.
Scoop and Slap – Transported back to the seventies, rolling down the street in a souped up El Camino. Windows down, music up! Crazy funk breakdowns, organ and guitar really take over the bass lines, and
then flare up into the sky like fireworks on a hot July night.
High On The Five – Bouncy, fun, zippy, groovy, driving, this is a solid rock 'n roll tune. Something fun to listen for throughout the album is the little background noises at the end of tracks, or the excited shouting during songs when things start to get rambunctious.
Free Hugs – The title track of their album shows a wide range of the band's unique style, skill, and finesse as a dynamically driven trio. The tune starts off
with a bright piano build, tight as a freshly packed tootsie
roll, smooth organ flows seamlessly as the whole song gets flipped on its head. I imagine a live
show of Hambone Relay being off the walls, high energy and fun. A band that
really draws you in and doesn’t let go.
Sick, Brah! – A rowdy, explosive ending to a fun, rock solid, prominent release. Careening through the air waves, percussion storms in fast and strong, musicianship at its finest, their transitions melt and reform effortlessly. Being in Hambone Relay must feel like being the fastest runner during the bulls on parade. Talent and pure style for days. If you’re looking to move your feet and steal the spotlight on the dance floor, lace up your shoes, because this is your song.

Nelson King is a alternative / lo-fi rock musician, and multi-instrumentalist
from Brighton England. His talent pours over into his guitarwork, bass, drums,
keyboards, vocals, mandolin, and harmonica playing! A fan of the late great George
Harrison, John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, and Marc Bolan; King’s latest release “Is
There Something” definitely takes influence from the classics.
His sound can be described as lo fi, alternative rock, with
throwbacks to rockabilly, and the occasional alt country vibes. Most musicians
today like to talk gear; what I found interesting about Nelson King, was his
humble beginnings. King bought his first electric guitar, a modest fender Stratocaster
copy, which he bought off his brother’s friend for only $5. These are the
stories you hear from rock legends like Johnny Cash, and Bruce Springsteen.
From start to finish “Is There Something” is a solid, rock
steady release. On the first track Is There Something, all I can picture is a
man dragging himself down a deserted highway, sun ripping through his black t
shirt, no water in sight… waiting for one lucky 18 wheeler to pick him up and
take him to the next town. Screeching electric guitars, a moseying drum beat,
and satisfyingly smooth vocals drip from this track into the next.
Why Worry is
an upbeat, ode to taking it easy. “Why Worry, Why Worry now”…as if saying
everything is over and done, why let any negative thoughts bring you down?
Another stand out song from this album “Loving Arms” starts off with a velvety
jazz lounge feel. “There’s a right way to loving me, open up your loving arms, let’s
do this the right way” A dark windy road through the mountains of West Virginia,
King’s sultry vocals swing in and out of the music, leaving you on the edge of
your seat, anticipating his next words.
Circa Survive, Flogging Molly, Incubus, The Head & The Heart… these are just a few of the long list of bands Alright Junior has shared the stage with. Formed in 2006, this alt rock trio, consisting of, Jace Miller (Vocals, Guitar), Mike Fraclose (Drums), and Jamie Victor (Bass, Backup Vocals), have become one of Philadelphia’s premiere modern rock groups.
Over You Over Me These gentlemen waste no time diving into this EP. Right away you are greeted by a wall of perfectly balanced guitars and front-man Jace Miller’s robust vocals. “How long will it take me to get over you, and for you to get over me?” I picture Thelma and Louise grabbing each other’s hands, and speeding off the cliff. Choosing to end the mental anguish instead of continue living in the hopes of time healing all wounds after a bad break up. Can anyone truly put a length of time on the recovery process? “How long will it take to heal?” The band flawlessly shifts moods between angst, and relief of a relationship gone awry.
Out At Sea Although this song starts off like it might be a happy tune, you quickly discover it has some dark undertones. Ever think you were so in love? Thought of someone so highly, then were painfully blindsided? Jace sings of a life lost out at sea. A life better lived in separate life boats, going completely different directions into shallows of Davey Jones Locker.. “What do you do when your halo slips and scrapes down your spine?” Imagine Wilson from the Tom Hanks movie Cast Away, now imagine if Wilson royally screwed you over. KICK, PUNT, get out of my life, I’d rather live and die alone then spend one more second with a double-crossing beach volleyball. Hold On To My Breath Again Slow to build, this ballad showcases the raw vocal prowess of Miller. Clean guitars overlap as the vocals layer to deepen the mood. The drums storm in, reinforcing the singer’s feelings of longing. Reminiscent of Lizzy Hale’s voice from Pennsylvania heavy rockers Halestorm. This song builds and builds, a haunting climb to the top of the empire state building, to scream from the top. The chaos that ensues is intense and powerful, just like the head-rush of adrenaline before jumping to the busy streets below.
In Pain “I've got a heart as heavy as your conscience” Boom. Hard rockin’, this is the band that meets you at the gates of hell. Flames shooting out from the cracks in the asphalt beneath their feet. Miller's gravelly vocals are almost as gritty as his guitar riffs, distorted and full of attitude. The rhythm section kicks in to full motion at the breakdown. Abrubt stops and starts, tight transitions, and a groove that you might find yourself headbanging too.

Way to go guys. This EP lets go off all inhibition. It’s dangerously honest, and sometimes raw.
