Artist: The Foes of Fern
Song: "The Monkey"
The Foes of Fern are a genre-bending good time rock n' roll band from Asbury Park, NJ. Whenever they hit the stage you know they'll be bringing with them the endless summer vibes, full of days spent walking the boards and playing music with friends around this community of devoted live music goers.
Matt "Fern" Fernicola is the frontman of the group, jokingly (or not, we'll never know) saying "You are all my Foes and I hate every last one of you", referring to the band's name. His endless charisma and contagious energy on-stage makes it hard not to crack a smile and dance when their music is playing.
Something I find rare and beautiful about The Foes of Fern is the inclusiveness and rotating cast of band members. In their bio they say "It’s not uncommon to have gigs featuring an entirely different band than the show before, adding different instrumental nuances to each show. Good humor, a chorus of Asbury’s finest, and crowd sing-alongs, however, are a constant," and "Fern always has an extra microphone at the ready in case someone else wants to take the stage and lend his or her voice."
On their latest release "The Monkey" we are greeted with musicianship from every angle, from the tight groovy rhythms to the wailing party-starting horn sections, and lead guitar dancing over top, it's a wild ride. The band brings a solid mix of The Beach Boys, Bruce Springsteen, and even some New Orleans Zydeco flair. Fern drives the monkey metaphor home singing "So I'll do your dance and ill be your monkey, and ill act a fool and it'll be so funny" followed by a sweet female chorus response singing "just dance, just dance". Make sure to catch The Foes of Fern playing in Philadelphia PA on October 11th at Bourbon & Branch! with American Dinosaur, Alright Junior, and Malibu. Event Page
