Chris holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music, and has lived in New York, Boston, Seattle, and now Los Angeles. Today we are listening to his latest single "I Swear I'm Going To Learn This Time" off of his album Water Under The Bridge.
If The Heart of Saturday Night version of Tom Waits composed a jazzy bluegrass saloon song with Patsy Cline, this is what it might sound like. "I Swear I'm Going To Learn This Time" is an upbeat number, featuring a full band arrangement with shuffling bass and percussion, bluegrass violin, bright piano, acoustic and electric guitar, underneath sweet vocal melodies and harmonies that could warm your entire house on a winter day. Lyrically Chris tells a story of longing and desire, with clever wordplay and memorable hooks, each phrase of the verse ending in the title "I Swear I'm Going To Learn This Time", as if reminding himself to behave and think his actions through before falling for someone again. Love is tempting, and broadcasted all year round from every billboard, dating app, dive bar coaster, and nosy relative over holiday dinner. "I should know better after all I've been through, but one caress and I fall for you". A beautiful collaboration of instruments, featuring pockets of lead guitar, a shining violin solo, and rhythm twists that put a bow on this wonderful nostalgic sound. Make sure to check out his Chris Murphy's latest album Water Under The Bridge, featuring this song, and more soon to be classic genre-fusion hits.
